please post your suggestions here

example example example DARKSKYNET 00:08, 8 January 2011 (CST)

Since these are the official rules, can we update them so they are accurate? Under PvE rules, banned items should include water buckets and lava buckets. Also, along the lines of the ban on tard towers, can we have a warning about unique trees in community spaces that form an integral part of landscaping and are often chopped down for the wood, destroying the irreplaceable redwoods and acacias? Something along the lines of "Large, unique trees are irreplaceable once destroyed, and may be part of a community's landscaping efforts. Destroying such community trees can constitute griefing, and if there is any doubt as to the status of such trees, one should not damage them."

Also, are any other items banned that I have missed? I have heard people claim that powered minecarts or minecarts with chests are banned.

forced takeovers

Necrowizard 14:08, 8 January 2011 (GMT+1)

This needs clarification; what is a forced takeover?

Is it a forced takeover if:

   * You just walk into someones house and say "harr, this is now my house"
   * You kill them in pvp anywhere in the world
   * You kill them in pvp inside their house
   * You kill them a certain amount of time
   * You announce you are going to force takeover his house before killing him...

Also, what is the new owner (owner2) allowed to do, and what is the old owner(owner1) allowed to do?

Apparently owner2 is not allowed to remove anything, but he is allowed to add things, right? [citation needed]

What is owner1 allowed to do with the house? Is he still allowed to remove the walls he build himself, to attack owner2?

Deleting blocks placed by other players or modifying players' houses without permission

Necrowizard 14:25, 8 January 2011 (GMT+1)

This needs clarification; what are you allowed to remove?

there appears to be an indifference along the moderators of about what you are allowed to remove from other players.

   * is it oke to break other people's walls to attack them?
   * is it allowed to modify the outside of a house? For example, placing a ladder on a wall to get over a wall, or placing a lever next to an iron door in order to open it.
   * is it allowed to modify the inside of a house? For example, placing fences inside around the player to prevent him from escaping
   * if its oke to break other people's walls, how much of it are you allowed to break, and is it required to fix it? If you are required to fix it, how much time do you have to do so, because replacing some blocks takes time. For example: glass, or obsidian (as its not place-able after breaking it)

Cross-service banning

"If you destroy anything on this wiki, you will also be banned from the Reddit Public Minecraft Servers" I think this is unenforceable, as the user accounts aren't necessarily the same. For instance I could create an account here as Warwick, vandalize a bunch of pages, and get him banned on the Minecraft servers. --TaviRider 11:37, 10 January 2011 (CST)

It's pretty easy to enforce. We have IP logs on the wiki, and IP logs on the servers. If we see an IP that vandalized the wiki correspond to a single user logging in to the servers, there's a high likelihood that it's the same person. I realize sometimes users share IPs, but if a single user has logged on to the server for over the span of a month using the same IP, it's a pretty good indicator. --sirmalloc 17:06, 11 January 2011 (CST)

Ban appeal needs changing

Needs changing from modchat to nerd.nu/forum

Obsidian unbanned

Someone needs to edit this and remove Obsidian from the creative banlist, as I don't seem to be able to.

Destruction of a wall in order to PVP

That just happened to me on survival and needs clarification, the wiki says "You can destroy somebody's walls in order to PVP if you replace them" but wiki also says that the rules posted at spawn replace rules on the wiki, and rule number 1 on survival (revision 7) says "Don't detroy other player's walls." So i'm wondering, we need clarification please :D Doriphor 14:52, 6 May 2011 (CDT)

New Rules Draft

Note: This is taken from the OP of the threads and any adjustments made in the thread but not added to the OP will need to be added. Additionally, the Banning policy differs in the PVE and Survival threads, I used the one from the survival thread. --AlcoJew 12:00, 8 August 2011 (CDT)

Common

  • Absolutely no impersonation of staff members.
  • Any rules placed at spawn on the servers supersede the rules here as they will generally be more up-to-date.
  • Invisible or glitched players may have their data reset without warning.
  • No sharing of illegal content
  • No griefing, including but not limited to: destroying blocks placed by other players, spamming blocks/items, flooding structures, leaving inappropriate signs on others’ structures, destroying crops without replanting.
  • No "grief-baiting". This means that players cannot try to get other players in trouble by tricking/forcing them to destroying structures in an attempt to get the player warned or banned.
  • No attempting to place or use banned items (List of banned items below).
  • You are responsible for your own account. Anything that is done on your account will be viewed as done by you, and will be treated as such.
  • No ban evasion via the use of other accounts.
  • Please don’t complain about lag or server restarts. It’s a fact of life, our technical admins are constantly working to smooth the experience, and repeated complaints get annoying.
  • Do not spam chat or abuse commands.
  • No advertising of non-nerd.nu servers.
  • No NSFW constructions (e.g. giant phallic buildings, swastikas).

PvE

Banned Items

  • Fire (Flint and Steel).
  • TNT.
  • Boats
  • Pistons
  • Placement of water or lava via buckets
    • If you need water, lava, fire or pistons placed please make a /helpreq
  • Buckets are for milk and furnace fuel (lava) only; do not attempt to place water or lava
    • If you happen to pick up water/lava with a bucket, do not try to drop it; you can use the trade signs at spawn to recover an empty bucket
  • Redstone mechanisms, dispensers, and pistons may be removed at moderator discretion; abuse of these (lag inducing, player traps, etc) may result in a ban

General

  • No killing or trapping other players in any manner. This includes, but is not limited to: Dropping lava on or around them, dropping blocks on them, or pushing them and forcing them to fall. This also includes using worldguard protections or lwc to trap players. Exceptions will only be allowed in extenuating circumstances with the explicit consent of an admin.
  • Any building scaffolding or access structures such as tard towers (towers that are only a single block wide) should be removed when no longer necessary. Permanent scaffolding or tard towers are frowned upon and may be removed by staff. Be respectful of the map and do not mar the experience or view for other players.
  • Do not leave item drops laying about in large quantities. This is detrimental to the performance and stability of the server.
    • No large scale automatic cactus farms. Large scale being more than 15(?) cactus plants. The periodic drops caused by an automatic cactus farm
  • Grinders require certain conditions to be met:
    • Grinders need registering in the grinder room under spawn. A protected staff only portal will be constructed in the grinder for quick access when necessary. They are portals for mods only, admins need to make them.
    • Grinders must be protected and have an incinerator (destroys drops when no one is using, like cactus or lava)
    • No grinders or cactus farms within 300 blocks of spawn.

Hacking

  • No attempts to circumvent any protections on the server, including but not limited to the server script, LWC(Chest protection) and WorldGuard(Block protection). Attempts to do so without permission will result in a ban without appeal.
  • Players using modifications to change gameplay may be asked to stop, kicked, or banned with little or no warning depending on the severity of the situation. This includes, but is not limited to: flying, speed modifications, xray/ore-detection, player radars, and duping hacks.
  • No use of bugs or exploits to gain an advantage over other players (eg: item duping).

Social

  • Please respect all players. Harassment of any staff or user can result in a kick or a ban.
  • No sexism, racism, homophobia or any type of hate speech targeted at specific users.
  • No offensive or inappropriate skins. Failure to change when asked by a mod will result in a ban until it is changed

Survival

Banned Items

  • Fire (flint and steel)
  • TNT
  • Boats
  • Water & Lava Buckets
    • If you need water or lava placed please make a /modreq

Harassment of the staff, or any one else, can result in a kick or a ban.
  • No sexism, racism, homophobia or any type of hate speech targeted at specific users.
  • No offensive or inappropriate skins. Failure to change when asked by a mod will result in a ban until it is changed.

PVP

  • Do not prevent players from entering their base after PvP encounters, post-spawning. A moderator or admin may ask you to move along if you appear to be doing so.
  • No removing blocks from others' structures to enter them unless doing so seems like the only viable option to engage in PvP. Any modifications made to a base must be reverted back to its original state. If you die during the PvP encounter, you are expected to fix what you broke ASAP. Players involved should not engage in combat while repairs are being made.
  • No spawn camping. Do not hang out on the edge of spawn waiting for players to leave, only to kill them when they attempt to do so.
  • Using login as a function of PvP is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Logging off while engaged in combat.
    • Relogging to gain an advantage such as invulnerability for PvP or to prevent fall damage while being chased.
    • Timing logins to attack players at specific locations.
    • Playing with multiple accounts to give yourself a PvP-related advantage may get the player warned by a mod and if shown to be used to give the player an advantage by an admin may get the user kicked/banned from the server.
  • No use of LWC-locked blocks for the purpose of base defense or personal protection. LWC should be used to protect the items within them, nothing else.
  • Anything unlocked may be looted. You are not to take someones unlocked block(griefing), nor lock it, but you may take the contents within.

Chaos

  • Banned Items: None
  • No rules, except the common server rules (minus griefing). No hacking or client mods, specifically.
  • Admins reserve the right to clean up anything making the game unplayable, including making spawn inescapable by any means.

  • If you would like any of these items, you can ask a mod or an admin to place them for you.

Mumble/IRC/Nerd.nu Forums

  • No “spamming” in the mumble with loud or generally annoying noises
  • For Mumble you may be asked to put on push to talk, if a player fails to do so he may be moved to the channel “Turn On Push to Talk”. If a player repeatedly joins a channel and causes problems he or she may be kicked or even banned.
  • No blatant sexism, racism, or hate speech targeted at specific users.
  • Excessive trolling in general will not be tolerated and may result in a ban from the forum, mumble, or even the nerd.nu servers.

Banning policy

  • In most cases, an attempt at establishing communication will be made prior to a ban. However, during certain times the server can be very busy, and depending on reason for the ban, you may not be warned. In situations where the player is significantly changing the game environment, they may be banned without any warning.
  • You may appeal bans by following the appeals process at: http://nerd.nu/appeal
  • If you are banned, please do not make a subreddit post or it may be removed & ignored.
  • Lifting bans is done entirely at the discretion of the mods / admins, and conditions may be imposed if a ban is lifted.

Wiki rules

If you destroy anything on this wiki, you will also be banned from the Reddit Public Minecraft Servers

This is taken extremely seriously. If you are banned from this wiki or the minecraft servers your may appeal your ban at http://nerd.nu/appeal.

Server page structural change

I don't know if I am the only one who feel that the wiki is somewhat difficult to navigate, especially when...

  1. ... I want to find current information on a server, lite the current cities and whatnot.
  2. ... I want to find information about old creations, towns, happenings and all that.

Now, I don't know much about all the other server pages other than PvE, but here all current settlements have their own section on the page, which is good. But at the same time everything else from past revisions are mushed together on its own page. On the server page we also have an introduction to the server containing a brief history of past revisions (which is good) but also quite a bit of text about past revisions but near to nothing on the current one (which is bad).

There is also some outdated screenshots, an outdated subway map, a section about "The Hunt for Atlantis" which was happening during the second revision and overall a quite generic description about how the server works (read the short transportation description, for example. It doesn't mention any current rail lines or pathways).

I'm proposing a change to make things somewhat more structured. First of we make a page for each revision, like "PvE (r1)", "PvE (r2)" etc. These contain a history of the server revision, maybe some lines about what has changed since the last revision, and anything else that might have been of interest when it was running. They also contain the list of settlements currently stashed away on the previously linked page along with short descriptions (if any) of these PoIs. Stuff like the Atlantis hunt will also belong to these pages so that one can easily get a grip of what have happened in the past, where and on what revision. Also, major changes in the server rules or game mechanics of the server (like map generator) can be included on these pages.

Then we either make a generic PvE much like the current one with only generic information (and maybe something current), history and images, along with a server page for the current revision "PvE (r6)" (like the ones described above). Or we make the current PvE server page all about the latest revision with settlements, current rail network, up to date images, history and events.

Of course, PvE is just an example, since it's my server of choice at the moment. A change like this ain't really such a big deal. The "sub-server pages" would be like historical copies of the then current server page. The current server page will still have a revision history table on them with links to the sub-server pages.

Also, I posted this in Talk:Rules simply because someone made a redirect here from Talk:PvE.
